Sea Kings� Kaluz earns Pacific Coast MVP again

 

Corona del Mar High senior Stefan Kaluz has been named the Pacific Coast League MVP for the second straight season.

Kaluz, a 6-foot-9 center who shared the top honor last year, helped the Sea Kings claim their second straight league title by going 8-0 in league. Last year, Corona del Mar shared the Pacific Coast League championship with Laguna Hills.

Kaluz led Corona del Mar (21-8) to the quarterfinals of the CIF Southern Section Division III-A playoffs. He averaged 17.7 points, 11 rebounds and 2.1 blocks per game, and made 54% of his field-goal attempts. Kaluz, who helped Corona del Mar win the CIF Southern Section Division III-A title in the 2006-07 season, is bound for Brown University.

CdM senior small forward Joe Eberhard and junior guard Sean Donovan both earned first-team all-league honors.

Senior point guard Erik Rask and senior power forward Adam Brakeville garnered second-team recognition, while freshman guard Clayton Ragsdale received honorable mention.

Eberhard, who is 6-6, said he�s considering playing for Concordia University or Azusa Pacific University next year.

This is the second straight year Eberhard earned first-team honors. Also, for the second straight year, Eberhard finished second on the team in points (15.3) and rebounds (6.6) per game. He led the team with 32 three-pointers made.

Donovan was third for Corona del Mar in scoring with 5.9 points per game, resulting in league recognition for the first time.

Rask, who missed the CIF championship run last year because of a knee injury, led the team in assists (five) per game and was tied for fourth in points (5.8). Rask is headed for the University of Pennsylvania to play football. He was the Pacific Coast League�s Defensive Player of the Year for football.

Brakeville, a JSerra transfer, averaged 5.8 points and 3.7 rebounds.

Ragsdale was second on the team with 3.4 assists per game, 31 three-pointers, and he averaged 5.7 points.
