After a disappointing loss at Stanford on Friday, the UCSB men's volleyball team bounced back in fine fashion with a 28-30, 30-26, 31-29, 30-22 victory at lowly Pacific Saturday.

The Gauchos (5-7, 4-5 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation) hit .368 as a team and got double-digit kill performances from Jeff Menzel (18), Theo Brunner (18), Michael Fisher (10), and Mike Runkle (10).

Brunner surpassed the 1,000-kill mark for his career in the match.

Freshman setter Vince Devany came in to relieve Max Klineman in the third game and continued to impress coach Ken Preston, notching 23 assists and running the offense smoothly.

Pekka Seppanen of Finland tallied a career-high 33 kills for the Tigers (1-11, 1-8).

"It was a good win and it was nice the way we did it," said Preston. "I would have like to have a sweep (on the road trip) but I guess a split is the next best thing."
