John Kroopf's Weekly Write Up
WEEK #1
The Inaugural season of the NFFL began with a match up of two eastern division heavyweights, The Atlanta Falcons and The Dallas Cowboys. The Falcons were with out second round draft pick Jamie Kline. Owner Matt Burgner counteracted Kline’s absence by sighing free agent Jonathan Kroopf to a single game contract. Dallas won the coin toss and elected to receive. The 'boys looked sharp on their opening drive down the field. Dallas had the ball in the red zone and was ready to take the early lead when disaster struck. Matt Burgner intercepted Cole Pass in the end zone and returned it all the way down the field for a Falcon’s touchdown. However the Cowboys quickly responded with a touchdown pass to David Yi. Both teams continued to score at will in this first to six-touchdown contest. With the score tied at 5, Atlanta capped a game winning drive with a 15-yard touchdown pass from Ryan Lance to Jon Kroopf. The win puts Atlanta in a good position to take the Eastern Division title. The second game boasted two of the NFFL’s premiere franchises; The Carolina Panthers led by owner Shawn Maxwell and Shawn Mohler’s Pittsburgh Stealers. Pittsburgh comes at you with a southern style shotgun offense reminiscent of Steve Spurrier’s days at Florida University. Mohler has a huge arm that is catalyzed by the speed of receiver Matt Doran and the hands of tight end John Fairbanks. However Pittsburgh’s superior athleticism did not match the will of The Carolina Panthers. Shawn Maxwell’s methodical west coast offense and Kyle Schneekluth’s league leading 18 receptions carried Carolina to victory. In the week 1 finale, Jake Wuebben’s Green Bay Packers rolled over Matt Paul’s Bengal’s by a score of 6-3. The Packer’s were lead by Jake Wuebben’s efficient passing and Tom Sollis’s stingy defense. More bad news came for the Bengal’s when an MRI came back on wide receiver Roger Ramillion’s ankle. The MRI showed a torn ligament and word from the team doctor is that Ramillion will be out for the season (4-6 weeks). In a statement released to the press the Frenchman hinted at a possible retirement due to the risk of endangering his baseball career. Bengals’s Owner Matt Paul didn’t spend any time mourning the loss of Ramillion, he quickly sighned free agent wide receiver Ryan Dupui to a single season contract. There is a lot of buzz heading into week two; much of it surrounds the highly anticipated match up between Carolina and Atlanta. The winner will not only be 2-0, but will have league supremacy. Panther’s owner Shawn Maxwell respects the abilities of his adversary, “This will be a clash of the Titans, only one will come out on top,” says Maxwell. When asked how he will handle Atlanta’s swarming defense, Maxwell responded, “ We are going to stick with short passes, and move down the field steadily and slowly.” Falcon’s Quarterback Ryan Lance was not intimidated by Carolina’s league leading receiver Kyle Schneekluth. “ We are going to stick with our defensive package, although we may pay a little bit more attention to Kyle then the other receivers,” say’s Lance. If the Falcons can prevent Schneekluth from taking over like he did against The Stealers, then Atlanta will be victorious. Some other notes from around the league, Green Bay receiver Tom Sollis is listed as doubtful for The Packers week two match up against Pittsburgh. This is a big blow to Green Bay, who is going to need to everything they have to beat Pittsburgh. Owner Jake Wuebben has contacted free agent Jonathan Kroopf to fill the void. Wuebben is banking on Kroopf being able to provide the same spark he did for Atlanta in week one. Also this week, look for The Cowboys to bounce back from their devastating week one loss with a big win over the Bengals. That just about wraps it up for this week’s edition of Inside the NFFL. Just remember when the NFL ends the real football begins.
